Why choose the Grand-Mère apple tree for your orchard?
A fruit heritage at the service of professionals
The Grand-Mère apple tree, also known as Reinette Grise du Canada or Jaune d'Angers, originates from the Anjou region of France. Renowned for its robustness and the quality of its fruit, this centuries-old variety is the perfect blend of tradition and modern performance.
At Arboriverse, a specialist wholesale supplier of fruit trees, we pride ourselves on selecting professional-quality grafted plants, produced by specialized nurseries and available at producer prices. This ensures you benefit from a robust tree, ready to offer optimal performance in a variety of conditions.
Fruit characteristics: Generosity and versatility
A fruit of generous size
The apples of the Grand-Mère apple tree are large, reaching up to 300g. Their slightly flattened and irregular shape immediately catches the eye, while their golden yellow skin, sometimes tinged with red, gives this variety a rustic and authentic appearance.
- Texture: White, fine and tender flesh, ideal for fresh or cooked preparations.
- Flavor: A perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, with fragrant notes and an unparalleled taste richness.
- Shelf life: Fruits can be stored for up to one month in cool, ventilated conditions, allowing for extended shelf life.
An apple with many uses
The Grand-Mère is a versatile apple that is suitable for fresh consumption as well as for culinary or artisanal processing.
- Pastry and processing: Its firm and juicy flesh is perfect for pies, cakes, and other desserts.
- Compotes and savory accompaniments: Its cooking resistance guarantees melting textures for compotes or savory dishes.
- Cider production: This apple can also be used in the composition of ciders with balanced aromas.
Fruiting and maintenance: An easy-to-grow variety
Late flowering and harvest
- Flowering: Mid-May, at a time which limits the risk of spring frosts.
- Harvest: The fruits are picked in October, just before the first autumn frosts, for marketing in November.
An undemanding but high-performing tree
The Grandmother requires moderate maintenance to maintain constant and abundant production:
- Annual pruning: Pruning in winter helps promote ventilation, optimize light and limit alternating production.
- Balanced fertilization: Adding organic fertilizer in spring enriches the soil with phosphorus and potassium, boosting flowering and fruit quality.
- Irrigation: Although it is hardy, regular watering is recommended during periods of prolonged drought.
